Follow Steps #1 -4 Before Starting Design Choice

Gather Your Choice Of Premixed Paint Color(s), Teardrop Sponge, Balloon,

Rubber Band, Baggies, Plastic Liner, Flat Paint Brush, Fine Line Paint Brush, Palette Knife

  • For best results using this technique use a very thin layer of background paint

  • Prep the teardrop sponge by positioning the pointed tip in the corner of a baggie, twist the baggie on-top of one of the flat sides of the sponge until it is tight around the sponge, and then secure it with a rubber band

  • For better handling of the sponge, cut off excess plastic about 2-inches beyond the rubber band

  • Choose your paint color(s) to create a color palette for your flower petals, you can use a single color or multiple colors

  • Lay out plastic liner beside the prepared canvas

  • Gently and slowly squeeze your applicator bottle using the applicator tip to create your color palette, place your choice of 2 inch paint color lines side by side onto the plastic liner

  • The initial color will represent the top of the petal, the second color will signify the middle, and the final color will be the center of the flower.

First Petal

  • Hold onto the rubber banded part of the teardrop sponge

  • Gently and slowly place the flat side of the teardrop sponge into the color palette you created,

  • Place the rounded part of the sponge into the the first paint color intended to be the outer part of the petal, and the pointed tip of the sponge into the last of the color choice intended to be the center of the flower

  • Take the teardrop sponge dipped with your paint color(s) and start your first flower petal

  • All in one motion, press the rounded part of the sponge first onto canvas and ending with the tip of the sponge towards the center of the flower, pull the sponge up and off the canvas leaving an impression of the first petal

  • If you do not like the way the first pull looks always do it over on top of the same petal impression, place the sponge back into the paint and redo,

  • Sometimes it takes a couple of pulls to get the desired design

  • Don't over pull the paint it will start to get muddy

Second Petal

  • Take the teardrop sponge and repeat the same process by tapping it into the paint color palette you created covering the teardrop sponge with all of the paint color(s)

  • Keep in mind you are forming a circle as you go and press the sponge onto the prepared canvas next to the first petal impression and pull the sponge up and off the canvas leaving an impression of  the second petal

Third Petal

  • Take the teardrop sponge and repeat the same process by tapping it into the paint color palette you created covering the the teardrop sponge with all of the color(s)

  • Keep forming a circle pattern and press the sponge onto the prepared canvas next to your second petal impression and pull the teardrop sponge up and off the canvas leaving an impression of the third petal

Fourth Petal

  • Add more paint color(s) to the paint color lines to replenish as needed

  • Take the teardrop sponge and repeat the same process by tapping it into the paint color(s) palette covering the teardrop sponge with all of the color(s)

  • Keep forming a circle pattern and press the teardrop sponge onto the prepared canvas next to the third petal impression and pull the teardrop sponge up and off the canvas leaving an impression of the fourth petal

Fifth Petal

  • Add more paint color(s) to the paint color lines to replenish as needed

  • Depending on the size of the flower you can continue the process until the circle is closed and the flower is complete

  • Take the teardrop sponge and repeat the same process by tapping it into the paint color palette you created covering the teardrop sponge with all of the color(s)

  • Keep forming a circle pattern and press the teardrop sponge onto the prepared canvas next to the fourth petal impression and pull the teardrop sponge up and off the canvas leaving an impression of the fifth petal

  • Place the sponge into the bucket of water until ready for cleanup.

Center Of The Flower

  • Choose the paint color(s) for the center of the flower

  • Place small line of paint color(s) onto the plastic liner

  • Gather a Balloon

    • Inflate a balloon one-third of the way, to 2-3 inches in diameter

(about the size of a lemon), and secure it with a knot

    • You can add a little water in the balloon to add weight for better control

  • Pull the paint with the balloon, hold it by positioning the tied-off end between your index and middle fingers; this will enhance your grip and provide better control over the balloon

  • Create the center of the flower by lightly pressing the bottom of the balloon into the line of paint color(s)

  • Gently press the balloon onto the canvas at the flower's center to form a flower-like impression and achieve a beautiful finish.

  • If you're not satisfied with the initial pull, clean the bottom of the balloon and try pulling the center again. Avoid over-pulling the colors, as they may become muddied.

  • Add more paint as needed

Choose Abstract Flowers or

Bouquet of Flowers with Stems and Leaves Below

Stem

  • Using the green paint color(s) gently and slowly squeeze the applicator bottle using the applicator tip to place paint onto the plastic liner for the stems

  • Use a couple of the green colors to create a beautiful contrast between the stem and the leaves

  • Dip the tip of the fine line paintbrush into the green paint and tap lightly, then carefully and slowly make a stroke to form the stem of each flower.

Leaves

  • Add more green paint color(s) onto the plastic liner as needed

  • Dip the tip of the flat paintbrush into the green paint color(s) and gently tap

  • Gently and slowly make the stroke to form the leaf

  • Stagger the leaves on each side of the stem

  • Create short leaves or long leaves on each stem

  • Create two or more leaves on each stem

Or Stencil a Leaf

  • Use a real leaf that will fit the size needed for the flower

  • Paint the back side of the leaf with the green shades of paint

  • Gently and slowly press the painted side of the leaf down onto the canvas

  • Slowly pull it up and off the canvas creating an impression of the leaf

  • Place the paint brushes and palette knife into the bucket of water until ready for cleanup
