Prepare The Canvas Background


      The following background technique is simple yet creates a beautiful result. For more creative and advanced background methods like Pour Paints, Blow Dryer Blow Out, Straw Blow Out, Plastic Sheet Swipe, Loofah, Textured Sponge, Foil, Plastic Wrap, and many others, you can explore online for countless ideas to craft your canvas background.

​​​Gather a Choice Of Premixed Paint Color(s), Sponge Paint Brush, Paint Brush, Palette Knife, Blow Dryer with directional nozzle (optional)


  • Select either Portrait or Landscape for the canvas orientation

  • Ensure the canvas is level to keep artwork from shifting

  • Apply your choice of paint color(s) onto canvas by gently and slowly squeezing the applicator bottle

  • Use the applicator tip to direct the placement of the paint onto the canvas 

  • Use the maze or spiral pattern to help apply the paint more evenly

  • 3-ounces of paint/water formula is typical for covering the 11x14 canvas background

  • NOT TOO THICK NOT TOO THIN

​Get Ready To Spread The Paint

Choose to use the sponge paintbrush, palette knife or blow dryer (optional)

to spread the paint onto the canvas​


  • Use the sponge paintbrush to spread the paint

  • Apply the paint with light gentle strokes to ensure it spreads smoothly and evenly, fully covering the canvas

  • Paint the sides of the canvas

  • Alternatively, you can opt not to paint the sides and instead use painter's tape to cover the edges of the canvas for a neat, finished appearance.

  • Place the sponge paintbrush into the bucket of water until ready for cleanup​​​​​​

  • Use a blow dryer with a directional nozzle to move the paint across the canvas, achieving a more uniform, smooth, and flawless texture 

  • Use a low cool fan setting 

  • Position the blow dryer approximately 8-10 inches above the canvas to maintain better control until you become accustomed to the airflow

  • Gently and slowly starting from the center and moving outward to the sides of the canvas, blow the paint across the canvas until it is entirely covered
